Motorized surfboards aren’t exactly the newest thing on the block, but when you see one you’re still going to do a double take. But this take on the motorized surfboard, known as the Jetson, has taken the whole “jet powered” idea to a new level. And by that we mean they’ve incorporated the tiny engine right into the design of the tail. Because what’s the point in having a jet like surfboard if you can’t make it look more like an actual jet?
The Jetson fits into the category of “boosted” surfboards, with a battery powered jet propelling the board into waves, just like the WaveJet, Lampuga and Jetsurf, among others. But while many motorized jet boards are made as flat out novelty water toys and miniature jet skis, Jetson joins the Wavejet as a true surfboard with a little added “assistance.”
So how much does a surfing without having the paddle cost these days? Jetson has three models advertised on their site, ranging from an 8 foot model down to a 6’4″ squash tail, for as much as €2,550 (almost $2,900 USD). The shortboard “Amberjack” model, for example has a battery life of 80 minutes. At $2,592 for the board, that means your first session is costing a little over $30 a minute.
