Here’s what we know about Noah Wegrich – he’s from Santa Cruz. He has worked in landscaping. He loves rap music. And he has an affinity for front deck pads. Other than that, we’re left only clips of his surfing and social media to uncover the man behind the afro. But the latest clip, titled “I love This Song,” shows plenty of the under-the-radar surfer absolutely shredding around Santa Cruz.
As evidenced by the clip, Wegrich carries on the tradition of bootie-wearing, high-flying surfers from central and northern California. Guys like Rat Boy or Nate Tyler come to mind. But he also pushes past his predecessors with an uncanny knack for progression. Take the air reverse at the 2:20 mark – that extra 180 degree rotation had the steezy late approach and intention of a snowboarder. You don’t see that too often in surfing. Keep an eye out for this kid.
