Marcial Monreal is a name you may or may not have heard. He pops into stories about heavy waves in Mexico and occasionally he’ll snag a bomb at Puerto Escondido that will turn more than a few heads. But it turns out the “occasionally” portion of that last statement is really in reference to how often we’re watching, rather than his actual wave count at Mexpipe. Marcial gets more than his fair share of barrels around Oaxaca, and if you need any more proof that the guy’s paid his dues to there take a peak at the monster he takes on the head (at the 4:10 mark).
Of course, this is no disrespect to Monreal. Watching him take on one of the meanest beach breaks in the world like it’s no big deal begs the question – why don’t we see more of this guy? He charges! In the meantime, enjoy this collection of Monreal’s work at his home break, Puerto Escondido.
