Ry Craike has, and always will be, one of my favorite surfers. He truly had it all. The turns, the barrel-riding, the aerials… you name it. And he did it all with immaculate style. But you don’t hear from him too often these days. Why is that? He seemed to have fallen off the map since his grom-ish days as a Young Gun. And remember when he blasted that massive full rotation that was arguably way ahead of its time?
The truth is, Ry didn’t go anywhere. He’s still doing his thing, living a humble life in North Western Australia, where he gets barreled off his rocker every day, fishes for sustenance, and drinks beer while exploring the vast, wild coast of Western Australia. Sounds like a goddamn dream, right? Ry’s adventurous, self-effacing perspective on life embodies what true a surfer should be, and it’s one that all of us should aspire to possess. And although he never really left, ladies and gentlemen, Ry Craike is back!
