We have always had a tremendous respect for Reuben Krabbe and his indelible knack for lighting. But this ski film, shot during a solar eclipse, takes it to a completely different level…or rather a completely different plane.
Reuben, along with a pioneering crew of similarly innovate skiers the likes of Cody Townsend, took the very edge of the Earth — in Svalbard, Norway — in anticipation of a total solar eclipse. There, in the Arctic, they set out against the frigid temperatures, otherworldly winds, and a territorial polar bear in an effort to realize our photographer’s grandiose vision of skiing during one of the planet’s rarest events.
This grandiose vision was inspired by a signature shot of his.

Needless to say, it was a journey for the books.
In the end, they got the shot. And what a shot it was.
If you’re interested in knowing more about this journey, the accompanying five-part feature is a must-read…or, better put, must-see.
