The Inertia

A yardsale. That’s what they call it in the snow world. When a skier or snowboarder goes down while navigating a steep, snowy incline, sending their body helplessly tumbling top to bottom down the hill, all the while their gear – skis, gloves, beanie, dignity, etc. – tossed every which way. The surf world doesn’t really have an equivalent to this since, when you fall, you typically just submerge and get thrashed unseen to the rest of the world. But occasionally, the carnage occurs above water. Jay Davies just became the closest thing to a surf world yardsale.

In the above clip, the latest from Aussie-based deck pads Creatures of Leisure, Mr. Davies surfs the slabs of his native West Oz. And to open the clip with a bang, the Spartan himself gets tossed like no other. But that’s not to say that he comes out of a few bombs unscathed. He even takes to the air with power, height, and grace even though some boosts he doesn’t quite stick. But if you’re going for the gusto, as with the heavy slabs and the hang-time airs, does it really matter if you come out smooth as a baby’s bottom every single time? All that matters is you went for it.
