How’s that for an air drop? Photo: WSL

The Inertia

Just moments ago, Maui’s Billy Kemper won the Big-Wave World Tour’s first-ever Pe’ahi Challenge in massive 40- to 60-foot surf. Better yet, he didn’t it in front of his entire hometown crowd.

From round one, Kemper had an undeniable rhythm. Heat by heat, he utilized his local knowledge and stood out among his fellow peers by fearlessly tucking under the entire Pacific Ocean as it unloaded onto the Pe’ahi reef.

The emotional Billy Kemper was at a loss for words in his post-heat interview with Strider Wasilewski and Pete Mel. He expressed a deep admiration and respect for his predecessors, who, according to Billy, paved the way for the newer generation of big-wave chargers. Congratulations, Billy Kemper! Enjoy the 25,000 big ones and those shiny trophies!
