The Inertia

The Fisherman’s Son was more than just a surf film in 2015. Winner of SURFER Poll’s Best Documentary and the feature attraction at this year’s Save The Waves Film Festival, people all over the world were gifted with the story of how Ramon Navarro fell in love with surfing as a boy in Chile and then grew into the guardian of that same stretch of coast. More than just a talented big wave surfer, Navarro’s tremendous gift for riding massive waves all over the world has given him the opportunity to protect Punta de Lobos. It’s a wonderful message and a solid reminder that surfing is a gift to all of us, and if you decide so, that gift can be used for a lot of good beyond just your enjoyment of waves.

It seems like a great way to celebrate surfing on Christmas Day, or even if you don’t celebrate Christmas at all – enjoying an inspirational little slice of our culture.

Editor’s Note: Much thanks to our friends at Save the Waves and Patagonia for sharing this story with the world, and to Xtreme Video for providing the film for us to watch here.
