The proper soundtrack can make or break an edit. And when we watched this footage of last week in the South Bay, we were taken back about twenty years.
We were reminded of a time when Kalani Robb and Rob Machado’s hair looked almost interchangeable. When the Arnette “Catfish” was the sh*t. When nose rocker was so crazy that all of the pro’s boards looked like elf shoes. When Billabong changed the game in wetsuits with the 2001 series (Zipperless? Are you freakin’ kidding me?). When the chop-hop was considered a legitimate maneuver. And, finally, when all of the sickest videos (VHS tapes) featured the raw, punk rock sounds of bands like Sprung Monkey, Pennywise, Unwritten Law, and NOFX (to name a few). The 90’s certainly had their own flavor, and punk rock tunes were the soundtrack.
Anyway, enough about the 90’s. The bottom line is that Southern California was firing the other day (in case you didn’t already know). Here’s an edit from John De Temple, cut with a punk rock 90’s vibe… love it!
