Mav’s gets very, very big. But you knew that already.
Remember when the Eddie was on and then off? A million people showed up to Waimea Bay, posted up, and were disappointed. But like they say, the Bay calls the day. Thankfully, Half Moon Bay called a different story for the Titans of Mavericks event, which is on right now.
The event is a great one, despite some very strange politics around it. Back in 1999, when it first ran, Flea took home the win at one of California’s most famed breaks. Right now, some of the best big wave surfers in the world are battling it out at one of the most dangerous waves in the world, and the conditions are just about perfect. While many big wave events aren’t great for the spectator–long lulls don’t typically hold anyone’s interest–this one is just getting better and better. The swell is filling in, and the waves are getting truly massive. Already, Ken Collins suffered a ruptured eardrum, and some absolutely massive waves are being ridden.
