Even the healthiest of humans can come up with the most elaborate of excuses to skip a workout. One day it might be a sore knee, the next it might be you’re feeling a little queasy from those eggs you scrambled for breakfast. My personal favorite excuse isn’t even for skipping a workout. Rather, the untied shoe is the perfect way to take a little breather during a run without totally giving away the fact you’re dying and about to fall over. Plus, if that shoe just somehow keeps coming untied, you might have to head home early because it’s driving you crazy.
Well, today Nike really derailed my favorite workout cop out. The brand unveiled the HyperAdapt 1.0 shoe today that’s a derivative of the “Back to the Future” replica shoe Nike released last year. The HyperAdapt is designed to be “more technical, sport version” of Marty McFly’s self-lacing sneakers. Yes, they self-lace.
Nike senior innovator, Tiffany Beers explains how the shoe works:
“When you step in, your heel will hit a sensor and the system will automatically tighten. Then there are two buttons on the side to tighten and loosen. You can adjust it until it’s perfect.”
She explains that the shoe allows athletes to make small adjustments even during a game. The buttons allow for the quick tightening or loosening of the laces in just 2 seconds. Your feet will never be uncomfortable again.
So, in sum, Nike eliminated these workout excused from a viable pool:
-Shoes untied.
-Shoes too tight.
-Shoes too loose.
-Blisters.
-Toe cramps (unless you intentionally skip eating bananas)
-Tripped on a shoelace, fell, tweaked the ankle, knee, hip, etc.
The only good news is that the shoe won’t hit the market until Holiday 2016. Enjoy your last few good months while they last.
