The Inertia

World records can be kind of random. But this one for the alpine skiing speed record is pretty impressive. Both the men’s and women’s marks for speed went down this weekend when Ivan Origone and Valentina Greggio set new standards, reaching 158 mph (254.95km) and 153 mph (247 km) respectively, becoming the fastest non-motorized humans on the planet.

They were skiing in an event called the Speed Masters at la Forêt Blanche (France). Greggio has already wrapped up the overall win in the FIS Speed Skiing World Cup while Origone is in a dead heat with his older brother, Simone for the overall title. The Speed Masters was not sanctioned by the FIS.
