The Inertia

We may sometimes forget it, but food is an art form. Ok, maybe not the peanut butter and jelly sandwich you made for lunch, or the granola bar you scarfed down after work, but really good food can be appreciated much like a stunning painting or photograph. There are many different elements that go into good food: the presentation, the flavors, the temperature, the texture, and the combination of dishes just to name a few. In combination, if done right, these elements can create a masterpiece.

The problem today is that most people don’t have time to appreciate a good meal, or even to cook one. Maybe once and a while you go out for a nice dinner, and you might take the time to appreciate the meal. Unfortunately for most people, this happens maybe a handful of times per year. The art of everyday food gets lost.

Well, Karen McLean the mastermind behind Secret Squirrel Food has found a way to make the ordinary extraordinary. We all appreciate avocados for their creamy texture, subdued flavor, and healthy nutrients, and they often find their way into almost every type of meal imaginable here in California. McLean, however, has found a way to make them art. Watch below to see how she transforms a simple avocado into a beautiful rose. Whether you’re placing an avocado rose on a piece of toast or a glorious chocolate cake, the rose is sure to remind you to appreciate what’s on your plate.
