Part of surfing is the endless search for perfection. Everyone knows it doesn’t really exist. Although there will always be those rare days where everything lines up, there is always something that could’ve been better. The crowd a bit too heavy, the wind a bit too strong, the swell coming from a slightly different direction. That’s part of the fun–surfing is suited to the saying “it’s not about the destination, it’s about the journey.”
The North Shore is almost perfect, but not quite. When a good swell hammered Hawaii, Dillon Perillo decided to take a risk and head to an atoll in the middle of the Pacific. And what he found is as close to perfect as one can get.
