The Inertia

I don’t think the French celebrate Cinco de Mayo. In the United States we’ve kind of adopted this day as an opportunity to shamelessly drink margaritas and gloss over the possibly offensive gesture of frat guys wearing fake mustaches and panchos in public. It’s a solid party holiday here in the states. And contrary to common thought Cinco de Mayo isn’t “Mexican Independence Day.” It’s actually the day for commemorating the Mexican Army’s defeat of the French in the Battle of Puebla; a significant victory for an army that was wildly outnumbered against a world power. So the French observing the 5th of May would be on par with the Brits running into the streets of London every July 4th to set off fireworks.

This Cinco, however, was cause for an awesome celebration in France. Light offshores all day, and barrel after barrel after barrel. Days like this are special. So while you were out enjoying two-for-one Caronas at Cabo Cantina two weeks ago these guys were enjoying the day of a lifetime. No Battle of Puebla hangovers here.
