The Inertia

A 55-year-old surfer has died Monday morning after being pulled from the water at Tombstones, a well-known surf spot near Gnaraloo Station in Western Australia. Witnesses reported the man had sustained “significant facial injuries” after he was pulled from the water unconscious. It’s believed the man hit the sharp, treacherous reef at “Tombies,” where the surf was notably large this week.

Ambulance officers were called at 8:50 a.m. and police were notified about 9:15 a.m. Shortly after, officials transported the surfer to Carnavon Hospital, where he was confirmed deceased.

This particular region of Western Australia is extremely isolated. Cell reception is very limited, let alone having fast, adequate medical attention in the case of an emergency.

We will bring you more information on this horrible tragedy as it comes. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the friends and family of the deceased man.
