Summer is off to a great start. Following a series of moderate, back-to-back south swells, this past weekend saw some great long-period SSW action, not to mention the water is finally in the 70s. The swell lit up a slew of different spots, including everyone’s favorite wedge in Newport Beach. Well, maybe not everyone’s favorite. (Watch the dramatic jet ski rescue that occurred on Saturday afternoon).

Wedge aside, the jetties in Newport were firing on the lower tides, making them some of the best spots around. The long-period swell also allowed for some less frequented spots to fire. Overall, the mornings looked to be the best option, as the onshore winds picked up at midday before glassing off again in the evening. Most importantly, the swell seemed to have put the sandbars in just the right place, readying for the next south swells that are already rearing their pretty little heads on the forecast.
