The Inertia

Flames erupted at the Billabong warehouse at J-Bay last night, destroying everything inside the building.

The fire, which began at about 11:00 p.m on Tuesday evening, was brought under control by Jeffrey’s Bay Fire Department in the early hours of Wednesday morning. The cause of the fire is still being investigated.

The warehouse in da Gama road was said to contain a large quantity of stock. A spokesperson from Billabong confirmed that nobody had been injured in the fire and that the Factory Shop and Concept Store are still open for business today.

“Billabong South Africa has the full support of Billabong International, and we are already in contact with International to replace lost stock,” the man told JBay News.

The fire occurs just days before Jeffrey’s Bay hosts the annual J-Bay Winterfest, which brings tens of thousands of people into the town.

More details on the fire at the South African Billabong warehouse to come.
