Extraordinarily ordinary! Photos: Instagram/Budgy Smuggler
How’s your rig looking? If you said “pretty ordinary” then you’re just one of the masses. Do you drink a little too much, sit more often than you should, and generally avoid the gym? Chances are pretty good that you do. Ordinary, after all is only ordinary because it’s the norm. If everyone was built like TechnoViking, then TechnoViking would just be another guy walk-dancing very aggressively. Ordinary bodies aren’t normally celebrated–until now, that is. Budgy Smuggler, an Australian swimwear company that only realized their typo after it was too late, wants to slap that average belly of yours and celebrate your totally ordinariness.
“A lot of people ask us why we are “budgy smuggler”, not “budgie smuggler”? they explain on their website. “The sad fact is, we only realized the incorrect spelling after it was too late to change back again. So budgy smuggler should have been budgie smuggler.”
They don’t want just any ordinary person, though. They want the most ordinary of all the ordinaries. “This bloke we are searching for is exceptional in his ordinariness. This bloke is so ordinary he is extra ordinary,” they wrote. “This bloke is also someone you want to get around and who his carries rig with a good sense of humor and embraces the body he is in.”
Here’s exactly what they’re looking for:
1. Should look like they could have been good at sport at some point in their life, although were most likely prevented via injury or being robbed by selectors early in their career.
2. Must be capable of launching a child from their shoulders several metres in a swimming pool.
3. Bonus points awarded for likes / shares on social media as well as descriptions of the exceptional ordinariness of the person pictured.
*Please note that a six-pack is an automatic disqualification.
Want to enter? Pretty sure you’ve got to be in Australia to do so. Aside from that, it’s pretty easy. Post a photo that shows off your extraordinarily ordinary rig on social media with the hashtags #OrdinaryRig2016 and #BudgySmuggler before October 1st.
Top 10 will be flown to Sydney with a friend for the Ordinary Rig Gala Event, and the winner will get a pair of custom Budgy Smugglers covered in their own pictures. And, of course, they get to “share their ordinariness with the world and encourage a mediocre expectations philosophy.”
