Smoking is bad for us.
That much we know. But a recent study out of England’s Bristol University actually went to great lengths to tell us how bad. And it’s an eye opener. For one, according to the article published in the U.S. National Institutes of Health’s National Library of Medicine, smoking one cigarette shaves 11 minutes off your life. This fact alone is perhaps most alarming. The study’s publishers admit that results aren’t exact, and can vary amongst smokers as affected by individual habits, but as they point out, “it shows the high cost of smoking in a way that everyone can understand.” They even break it down into a nifty formula and play it out over 6.5 years. Decipher it here.

Then the folks at this interesting non-profit organization out of Chicago, MEDspiration, created the video, above, to enhance the study graphically. The amount of tar built up in the lining of the lungs speaks for itself. If this doesn’t inspire you to quit, you’re doomed.
