In the southeastern outskirts of Austin, Texas, there’s a perfect grinding right and lefthander. Located adjacent to some sort of silo (apparently), the vistas from within NLand Surf Park are a contradiction of sorts. Not exactly rural, but definitely not coastal, the first wave pool in North America set to open to the public – Kelly’s wave is just an R&D facility, for now – it might even be possible to hear a John Deere tractor whistling in the distance. Or so I imagine.
NLand Surf Park hasn’t been immune to controversy in the past few months (namely, legal issues). But if anything can be said about these unfortunate setbacks, it’s that NLand has taken them in stride. They’ve dropped banger edit after banger edit, starting first with a piece coproduced by the New York Times, and now this most recent little 20 second teaser that is truly that – a tease. And Nathaniel Curran stars. And rips the wave a new one.
