There’s an inherent tension in shaping surfboards as a career. Making what the customer wants, the market demands, and what you want to make aren’t always in alignment. The almighty dollar has influenced what many a backyard shaper-turned functioning professional ends up popping out on the daily. But other shapers choose not to bend. Like it or not, they holdfast to the idea that the aesthetic of their boards comes above all else. If you want something different, go somewhere else.
Thomas Bexon is one such individual. Quite literally he is shaping his future the way he wants to see it. Surfing when it’s good, shaping designs that inspire him, and appealing to those that get it.
