When biblical rain or snow make it hard to get to the the beach or the resort, surfers and snowboarders (and the odd urban jet skier) must find options closer to home. Luckily for many of us this winter, epic conditions have been found right outside our doors on road shoulders and massive puddles, among other improvised spots.

This winter has giveth. And we’ve compiled the best it’s had to offer so far:

Skurfing Nowhere Near the Beach in Long Beach
It’s kinda hard livin’ in the L.B.C. when the waves so rarely F-I-R-E. But that doesn’t matter much when you can get your turns skurfing in the streets like Kyle farmer did this week.

Jet Skiing in Fullerton
Surfing and snowboarding in the streets seems like a novel idea this winter. But only because you haven’t seen someone on a trick jet ski blazing up the road in Fullerton. And when that someone is jet ski world champ Mark Gomez fulfilling a years-long dream to ride up his street, you’re in for a treat, friends.

On this stormy Sunday this little 550 screamed up this little 8 inch Yale street gutter river like an angry race gas burning salmon up stream!! After years of my brother Philip Gomez and I waiting for the rainy day stars to align. That was for us both being home and it to be raining just hard enough to get our street gutters to flood enough so I could try to ride up our street in Fullerton, CA. We tried it before but couldn't get it going..today with the help of the neighborhood I pulled it off! First attempt was filmed from the bottom of the hill, I made it all the way up my street, turned right and had to stop because of a parked car blocking my river! This second attempt got almost as far until I clipped the curb which sent me into the shallow spot toward a soft abrupt stop, but thankfully my chin cushioned the blow haha. And here goes a dude just casually snowboard-dog mushing with two golden retrievers.

Shralping a North County Puddle
Considering the color of that puddle, dirty ocean water probably wasn’t the reason surfer Grayson Amthor got this tow along the road in north San Diego County.
