The Inertia

When I was a kid, I used to hate roller coasters. Still do. My best friend, though, loved ’em. It was an unfortunate pairing any time we’d go to Six Flags or Knott’s Berry Farm – him coaxing me into a ride I wanted nothing to do with, me trying to convince him that the spinning teacups could be just as thrilling as a backwards, 0 to 60, triple loop coaster if you only spun yourself fast enough. The only way he’d get me to go on certain roller coasters was if I’d look around and see a much younger kid in line with a huge grin on his or her face. Then, I thought, it couldn’t possibly be that bad.

The video above is both exactly and nothing like that situation. Kyllian Guerin is that young kid, thirteen in fact, slipping into thumping barrels from Nias to Hawaii to his home in France with aplomb. And here I am wishing I’d ridden a few more giant coasters at Kyllian’s age.
