This is pretty savage. A 19-year-old skier at Whistler Blackcomb was riding a powder-filled, off-angled chute last week inbounds when the slope let go, sending him off a cliff he estimated at 15-19 meters. So it could have been anywhere from 45-70 feet. You can see it at the end of this quick edit. The accident left the skier lucky to be alive, obviously, and without injury.
Sandro Blesinger, from Germany, was visiting the ski resort and happened to be wearing an avalanche pack when the slide occurred. He released the bladder which inflated and probably saved his life. “Suddenly I saw a crack in the snow and I realized the snow was moving with me and I was shocked about that,” he said. “Four seconds later, I really realized what happened. I landed on the airbag with my head and I think that was a really, really good thing otherwise I would have just hit my head on the ground.”
