The Inertia

Humans are pretty gross. In our pursuit of gluttonous comfort, we produce incredible amounts of trash every day. Tons (literally tons) ends up in the ocean. That, of course, sucks for the creatures that live in it.

When Bryce Trevett was out filming wildlife off the Los Angeles coastline, they spotted what they thought was a balloon floating on the surface. Thinking they’d do a bit of garbage collecting, they went over to pick it up.

“As we approached this balloon, we noticed it was entangled with a young loggerhead sea turtle,” wrote Trevett. “We jumped in, pulled it on board, and cut the line/balloon material off. We took the opportunity to quickly talk about and hopefully educate people about the importance of throwing away your balloons and trash and how they affect marine life. This is the second sea turtle we have encountered in the last couple months that has been tangled in trash.”
