DIY is so in these days. Still, for all the videos proliferating online about backyard surfboard building and making your own alaia, this is pretty unconventional. Here Kyle Meloy takes a page out of the Ancient Hawaiians book by chopping down a tree to make a surfboard instead of getting perfectly symmetrical materials from his local Home Depot. As far as instructional videos go, this isn’t the most detail oriented, so if you’re actually hoping to cut down a tree to make a board you may want to supplement this video with additional research, but watching the guy take down a tree and make it into a functional surfboard he ultimately takes surfing is pretty crazy.
