Hey Alex Honnhold, climbing El Cap without ropes is cool and all, but you don’t have anything on these two climbers: Leah Pappajohn and Jonathan Fleury scaled the nose of El Capitan this week naked. That’s right, they completed the project in their birthday suits–and using ropes–in 12 hours, just eight hours more than it took you to do it with your bare hands.
“We Did It,” wrote Pappajohn (yes, we believe that’s her real name). “Jonathan and I climbed The Nose naked; the first naked ascent of El Cap! For you non-climbers out there, “naked” is not a fancy climbing term like “free”. It straight-up means I did it without any clothes.”
Apparently they were sunburned, tired and perhaps suffering from several rope burns–we couldn’t confirm–but they finished in a non-record time with friends waiting at the top. All in good fun, too. Which is the best kind of fun in the mountains.
