This is the kind of stuff that makes you extremely creeped out if you spend any amount of time in the California foothills. The rare footage above of a mountain lion taking down a deer was captured by Randy Spade of Whitmore, California–east of the city of Redding–and published through Field & Stream.
Spade sets up cameras at watering holes at a ranch near his home and told the magazine that he mostly sees bears. But then this big cat came out of nowhere on May 31 and blew his mind. “I was surprised by how fast it struck,” said Spade, who runs 30 trail cams on 2,200 acres of land. “It was in the blink of an eye.”
