The Inertia

I once heard Timmy Reyes say in an interview that surfing small waves is much harder than surfing big waves. Makes sense. Barring waves of XXL consequence, generating speed on a wave bigger than, say, chest high is a non-issue. Even the most elegant of surfers might take to the pint-size stuff and look sluggish. Point being, those who excel in small waves and can make it look easy deserve their due.

Enter Hector Santamaria. It’s very likely you’ve never heard of the man, who hails from Puerto Rico. Maybe it’s time to get acquainted. His propensity to huck strange little flips with reckless abandon is reminiscent of Matt Meola. The sal flip/shuv-its? Very Chippa Wilson. Bottom line: guy’s got range.
