Some time ago, I recall coming across a video on the web where Dane Reynolds – frustrated with a board that was a tad long – took a saw to the tail, patched it up, and absolutely ripped on it. Apparently, professional surfers have a heightened sensitivity to small changes in weight, volume, and dimensions when it comes to their craft, and aren’t above mutilation to achieve perfection. Case and point, John John shaving down a tail pad in this little ad for his new collection with Dakine. Only the champ knows what shaving off a few centimeters of the kick in the back will achieve. Far be it from me to ask questions. The caveat of these new pads? Kitchen knife sold separately.
