The Inertia

Remember back when an 18-year-old Russell Beirke won the world’s scariest surf contest? Yeah, us too. Red Bull’s Cape Fear event was a real doozy, and a kid won out of a field of hardened, big wave psychopaths. Now, of course, Bierke is 20, which means he’s two years better than he was when he won world’s scariest surf contest.

And since he’s so used to surfing scary waves, scary waves need to be really scary for him to think of them as scary waves. One such wave is located in Ireland, where the water is cold and clear. Bierke, along with Team O’Neill, hopped on a plane to the Emerald Isle, where the locals greeted them with big smiles and directions to some terrifying waves–and, of course, some plain old not-so-terrifying waves.
