The ascension of Yago Dora is imminent but of yet not a guarantee for 2018. Adriano de Souza may have famously celebrated the young Brazilian’s Azores Airlines Pro victory earlier this month on Instagram saying, “Welcome to the 2018 WCT,” but number crunchers at the WSL have warned not to be too hasty. Still, the 19-year-old phenom is sitting pretty at number 2 on the QS rankings, making qualification almost certain.
Amassing free surf clips like the one above, two wins on the ‘QS, a quarterfinal showing in Rio, and a wildcard slot in Fiji collectively has endeared Yago in the hearts of many. The silky smooth style reminiscent of other curly-haired goofy footers goes without saying. So, is Yago the most anticipated ‘CT hopeful since Filipe Toledo? John John? Give this five-minute clip of the young buck in the Mentawais a watch and you be the judge.
