From South Africa to California, the current world number one, Jordy Smith, has been on a tear of late. At Lowers, especially, Jordy’s San Clemente transplant status made him unstoppable through to the final – losing out only to fellow San Clemente transplant Filipe Toledo.
The first installment of O’Neill’s new series, “Beyond the Tour,” tails Jordy from San Clemente to South Africa and back again. He explains what an honor it was to surf his first perfect heat at J-Bay, Channel Islands shaper Mike Andrews explains the finer points of dialing a contest-ready quiver for the big man, and a handful of notable San Clemente locals talk what it’s like to see Jordy around town.
