The Inertia

According to the Vimeo description on this one, Matt Bromley is surfing a very large wave that was created after Indonesia’s Boxing Day earthquake. “Bromdog ventures to the tropics to surf one of the heaviest waves in Indonesia,” it reads. “They’re chasing a phantom bombie, which was created during the 2004 earthquake.”

Soon after, he headed to Nias, a wave that was also affected by that catastrophic tremblor. The reef moved up a few feet, and the already-perfect wave just got hollower. Whether or not that first wave was actually created by a shifting bathymetry, it’s clear that Bromley surfed a very big, very empty wave… and like he says, “this is the dream.”
