For some time, a well-documented trend has been emerging in snowboarding. Not unlike other snow pursuits, or even surfing or skateboarding for that matter, the dominance of the progression-centric paradigm has reached a point of diminishing returns. As snowboard legend-turned-commentator, Todd Richards, said to me in an interview (look for that tomorrow), he’s actually doing math calculating double corks and 1440s in the booth. Us plebes can hardly relate.
But more recently snowboard filmmakers have begun to return to snowboarding’s essence – low stakes turns and powder runs. It’s what the people want. Hell, it gets me going!
And Yesterday from Bryan Fox and the guys at Quiksilver is in its own words a return to simplicity.
“I wanted to keep it as simple as possible,” says Bryan. “I picked three locations, got some friends together and went on these road trips looking for good snow. In the end, I hope it just makes people want to have some fun and go riding with their homies.”
Filmed in Oregon, New Zealand and Japan, and featuring Austen Sweetin, Griffin Siebert, and Alex Yoder, this film is bound to fire you up for the winter. And while few Americans and/or Canadians have the means to drop everything and head to Japan or New Zealand for a “simple” trip, the message of hitting the road with your friends and getting after it is well-taken.
