The Inertia

When Benjamin Sanchis’ dispatch video from 24 hours he recently spent in the West African nation of Senegal slid across our desks this morning, we stopped cold. “Look at this wave!” said Dylan referring to the well-groomed grinder around 33 seconds. “That first wave he takes off on though at 38 seconds!” was Juan’s rebuttal. We’ve heard through the grapevine that Senegal gets good, but having never tasted its fruit ourselves we didn’t know it could get this good. So if you’re anything like us – milking hangovers with an extra cup of coffee or two wondering when, if ever, Southern California will feel the pulse of a solid groundswell again, take heart. And thank Benjamin Sanchis for his mini-score, because at the very least we get the heart pumping a bit vicariously threading tubes and cranking turns. Who knows? Maybe it’s just the fuel needed to do something rash – like book a flight on a whim.
