Mike Coots has an incredible story: he was attacked by a shark at 18 while bodyboarding in Hawaii. He punched the shark back to thwart the attack–which worked–but the animal had torn off his right leg. The amazing part is that Coots possesses an inner wisdom most of us are searching for. He forgave the species, and engulfed on a career as a photographer, capturing imagery of sharks to help protect them (listen in).
Yes, we know Mr. Coots is doing good work. But that doesn’t even come close to making this shot any less terrifying. There’s just no way around it: a Great White shark approaching in the water is enough to make any well-adjusted human lose it. And the slow-mo and hollow sounding noises? Judge for yourself.
