Man turn from the big fella @zekelau #snaketalesraw back ground noise #tomwhitz

When it comes to Fantasy Surfing, strategy exists on a spectrum. At one end, you’ve got those who choose random picks based on their affinity for certain surfers, or their hometown hero status. On the other, you’ve got those who look at CT surfers the same way they assess ponies at the paddock before placing bets. They heavily research what their picks have been up to on the ground before a contest, look at how they’ve done at that contest in past years, evaluate their coach (if applicable), and watch footage. If you find yourself at the latter end of the spectrum and didn’t throw Zeke Lau onto your team it may already be too late.

On Tuesday (Wednesday Australia time) Jake “The Snake” Paterson uploaded a single wave that blew our collective minds here in The Inertia’s offices. I rushed to my computer and in the nick of time dropped someone from my team (I won’t name names) and threw Zeke on.

A while back I became a fan of Zeke’s when I interviewed him in Hawaii, and am bummed I didn’t give him the benefit of the doubt enough to give him the nod for my team before seeing this turn while scrolling through Instagram. But he’s on there now so Zeke, if you’re reading, don’t let me down, man!
