The Inertia

Kangaroos aren’t exactly ocean-going species. Oh, sure, they can swim pretty well, but you won’t find them frolicking around in the ocean all that often. Recently, a wild female kangaroo found itself in a bit of a predicament: it was stuck behind a seawall with an incoming tide.

“What’s that, Skippy?” wrote Queensland Fire and Emergency on Twitter. “The tide’s on the up and you’re stuck behind Sandgate’s seawall, needing our crews to save the day?”

According to reports, the young kangaroo was exploring on the sand behind the seawall in Sandgate early in the morning when the tide began to rise. At sunrise, early morning walkers spotted her and called for help. The kangaroo wasn’t able to hop over the wall, and spectators watched as she was soon up to her neck in water. Thankfully, rescuers were able to hoist her up out of harm’s way. “Luckily, Skippy still has a few friends ever true,” Queensland Fire and Emergency continued, “and our Sandgate crew were able to work with Qld Police to successfully help this little guy free!”

Once she was up on dry land again, she spent a few minutes drying off under the watchful eye of her rescuers before hopping off into the bush in good health.
