Alexandra Falls in Canada’s Northwest Territories is a beast of a waterfall. The high-volume falls was once a world waterfall record before the sport went Richter. It’s now regularly run by whitewater’s elite paddlers. There are a number of lines to run off the falls, all of them fairly gnarly. Plenty of kayakers have dropped it. And plenty have gotten absolutely worked.
This is Bren Orton, an English kayaker who ran the beast and paid dearly. Here, he goes into detail about the drop and how it literally “broke his face,” knocking him unconscious (he had to be rescued by his fellow kayakers). His drop and readiness to jump straight back on the horse has certainly created debate within the small whitewater community.
