If you’ve ever had the dream of climbing in Yosemite with none other than Alex Honnold, now’s your chance. Photo: Omaze
Alex Honnold might be one of the most recognizable names and faces in rock climbing today. After his historic free solo of El Capitan last year, one of the greatest feats in sport, Honnold did a media tour that included appearing on Jimmy Kimmel. And a film about the climb, Free Solo, is now showing across the US (more info here). Honnold is quite literally a rock star. And now, he’s giving away the chance of a lifetime to climb with him (or hike, or whatever if climbing isn’t your thing) around Yosemite.
It’s like playing one-on-one basketball with Michael Jordan. Or hockey with Wayne Gretzky. And it could cost you all of $10.
Honnold partnered with Omaze for this giveaway in an effort to raise funds for his own charity, the Honnold Foundation. The organization’s express goal is to, “reduce environmental impact and address inequality by supporting solar energy initiatives worldwide.”
“Your donation will help their work to promote solar energy for a more equitable world,” explains the Omaze page.
So what are the deets of the trip?
“You’ll climb, hike or walk around and take in the natural beauty of the national park,” the page explains. “(Climbing is optional, sense of adventure is a must.) From the waterfalls along the Mist Trail to the legendary Half Dome, whether you roam up high or stay planted on the ground, there’s no such thing as a bad view. Plus, you’ll have the literal rock star himself (and a certified guide) there to give you all the expert tips. And so you’re not left hanging, you’ll have plenty of time over lunch to chill and ask Alex all your climbing questions. Flights and hotel are on us.”
