Surfing is a funny thing. Style is oh-so-important and oh-so-obvious—but it’s not entirely clear what exactly good style is. It’s one of those things that just is, and you either have it or you don’t. Emerick Ishikawa has it, and he has it in spades. The lifeguard/shaper knows the ocean and knows how to create surfboards that go with it. His surfboards are an extension of how he surfs: fluid, loose, and different. The board you see in the video above, for example, is a 6’8″ that has a little something odd: look closely at the nose, and you’ll see another fin box. Yes, it’s a double-ended surfboard, and yes, Ishikawa is absolutely ripping on it.
