The Inertia

Comboed and on the ropes in his quarterfinal heat against Conner Coffin, Gabriel Medina dropped two back-to-back scores to squash any doubts that the ocean wasn’t on his side in his hunt to clinch his second world title.

The first – a true Pipe screamer to launch ramp finish – earned Medina a 9.43. But, it was Medina’s perfect 10 that Ross Williams called, “the best backside tube ride of the event.”

Now that Medina’s made it through to the semifinals, Julian Wilson has to win the event to win a world title. Anything less, and Medina wins his second.
