The Inertia

Do you ever notice how irrationally angry some surfers seem to get about this whole wave pool thing? Even just reading the words “wave pool” in the headline probably had some people cracking their knuckles in preparation to aggressively hammer out their grievances through a keyboard. Poor keyboards.

There’s no soul. It’s not real surfing. It’ll never be as good as being in the ocean, experiencing the real thing…

You can watch Jack Freestone, Seth Moniz, Ryan Callinan, and Ethan Ewing in Africa and notch one in the “W” column for those anti-wave poolers. Point breaks like these are exactly why wave pools really never will be as good as the real thing. Pools will never grow so close to perfection that we find ourselves living in some dystopian surf future where man can only be bothered to surf a chlorinated, sterile, conveyor-belt wave engineered on a computer. Why? Because waves like the ones you’re about to watch might as well be man-made perfection anyway.
