Have a swing at surfing as a professional career and you must spend a winter on the North Shore. It’s a rule. Or a law. Or just something scribed into a big rock with surfing’s commandments, sitting right between “Closest to the peak…” and “Don’t wear booties with a short-leg spring suit.”
Nonetheless, just because it’s an agreed upon rite of passage doesn’t mean it’s a given. Take Geovane Ferreira, for example, who after years on the QS finally had the opportunity to spend his first full season getting acquainted with the 7 Mile Miracle.
“The first season is always an ice breaker,” he tells The Inertia. “The waves in Hawaii are very different from what I watched in the movies. Without doubting the best trip of my life, I had the honor to receive this invitation from my friend Filipe Toledo and to be able to follow close to the best surfers in the world. ”
As you’d expect, Geo scored.
