The Inertia

Conner Coffin is a real-deal, stand-up guy, in case you didn’t know. The elder Coffin bro may be most celebrated for his power surfing – mainly at the righthand pointbreaks of the world – but on land, the man’s approach is muted, low-key. Humble even.

It comes as no surprise, then, that last weekend when Coffin rose to the top of the podium of the pro division of the annual Rincon Classic, his speech was succinct. “I just want to dedicate this to Chris Brown,” said Coffin a few words in, beginning to tear up. “And the money to Chloe, his daughter.”

Back in January, news of Brown’s untimely passing left the surf world reeling. Many tributes likened his approach to that of Tom Curren including a particularly touching one from Kelly Slater. The community of Santa Barbara continues to pick up the pieces.

Coffin was especially choked up when taking photos with Brown’s daughter who explained Brown was so proud of him and his brother, Parker. Watch the video above to the end for your feel-good moment of the day.
