Sometimes it doesn’t work out as planned. This isn’t a new vid (above) but it’s a classic, posted to Tanē Bowden’s Instagram page last year. We feel like it needs to see the light of day again, though. Bowden is a Gold Coast-based surfer via New Zealand. Everything on this run looked like it was going to plan. Tanē was even using the casual, double-hand paddle looking as though he was ready to pop up after he exited the dam’s spillway. But then? Total scorpion.
Don’t let the vid fool you. Bowden is a talented rider of waves, currently ranked seventh in the WSL’s junior series. You can see more of him on his Vimeo page, here. But there’s nothing like this on there. Remember, if you’re not scorpion-ing, you’re not sending hard enough.
