The Inertia

Surfers from Maui are like a whole different species of surfer. Waves there are often windblown.  The tubes there are heavier than usual. The reef is a little sharper. But if you grew up there, those little things shaped you into a surfer who’s able to navigate the face, the barrel, and that place above the lip better than most. While you might look at white caps on the horizon and be annoyed, for Maui surfers, they mean air sections. You might look at closeouts and walk away, but the Maui surfer sees an end-section par excellence Think Meola, Albee, or Marzo. Also think Ian Gentil, who puts the Maui theory to the test in the video above.
