One of the strangest things about being on the North Shore in December is that during almost any session, an average surfer can sit shoulder to shoulder with some of the best surfers in the world. Imagine, if you will, heading down to a tennis court in your neighborhood. When you get there, you look at the court and see that Roger Federer is serving one up to Rafael Nadal. Serena Williams is over on the next court playing a quick game against Maria Sharapova. And here you are, with your funny little sweatband and your can of tennis balls. Pretty cool, right?
Well, that’s kind of what it’s like. In between events, the best surfers still do what they love most: surf. In the video above, Kelly Slater, Gabriel Medina, Kolohe Andino, and a handful of others are having a ball outside of the contest jersey.
